Kościuszko Mound
Monument Commemorative mound honoring national hero with city views
Kościuszko Mound in Kraków commemorates Tadeusz Kościuszko; a 19th-century earthen monument that provides city panoramas and hosts occasional historical commemorations.
Kościuszko Mound is an artificial commemorative mound in Kraków, southern Poland, constructed in the early 19th century as a monument to the Polish and American military leader Tadeusz Kościuszko.
From the summit there is a compact viewing terrace that provides panoramic views over Kraków and the Vistula River valley. The mound itself is a short landscaped ascent and is commonly visited together with nearby parks and green spaces.
The mound was built by Kraków citizens between 1820 and 1823 to honour Tadeusz Kościuszko and contains soil reportedly brought from battlefields where he fought. It has been maintained as a civic monument since its construction.
Sited on a hill in Kraków’s western area near the Zwierzyniec district, the mound lies within the city’s parkland and is accessible from the urban centre.
