Kopaonik National Park is a protected area in central Serbia covering part of the Kopaonik mountain range. The park was designated a national park in 1981 and protects high-mountain landscapes and forests.

The park’s highest point is Pančić’s Peak, at 2,017 m, and the area is a major winter sports centre with ski lifts and marked pistes. In summer the park offers hiking on mountain trails, alpine meadows and mountain viewpoints.

The natural habitats include mixed beech and spruce forests and areas of subalpine flora, including species of conservation interest. The park is also used for outdoor recreation, education and seasonal tourism.

The protected area was established as a national park in 1981. The summit name Pančić’s Peak commemorates the 19th-century Serbian botanist Josif Pančić, who studied the region’s flora.

The park occupies the central-eastern part of the Kopaonik massif in central Serbia and includes the developed ski resort area as well as surrounding protected forests and meadows.

  • Highest point: Pančić's Peak reaches 2,017 m above sea level.
  • Best time to visit: Winter months, typically December to March, are best for skiing; summer months, roughly June to September, are best for hiking and alpine flora viewing.
