National Park Remote rainforest park with reservoir in Queensland
Protected area in north Queensland around Koombooloomba Dam and surrounding rainforest; offers hiking, birdwatching and remote wilderness access.
Koombooloomba National Park is a protected area in Far North Queensland, Australia. The park contains rainforest and upland habitats and includes the water body formed by Koombooloomba Dam.
Visitors encounter remnant and regrowth rainforest, riverine corridors and open catchment around the dam and reservoir; the area is of interest for nature observation and remote bushwalking. The man‑made lake and dam are prominent features in an otherwise rugged, less‑developed upland landscape.
The dam and lake were created as part of mid‑20th century water and hydroelectric infrastructure in the region; the park conserves surrounding natural values and catchment areas. The national park status protects vegetation and wildlife typical of the Atherton Tablelands.
