How to Get to Klitmøller#
Klitmøller (North Sea coast) is best reached by road from Aalborg or Thisted; there is no train station in the village. Local buses and car hire are the practical options to reach this surfing destination.
Aalborg Airport (AAL): Aalborg is the nearest major airport with international connections; from Aalborg to Klitmøller is a drive of about 1.5-2 hours. Taxis and car hire are the most practical direct options from the airport.
Thisted / local airports: There are smaller regional airports near North Jutland, but service is limited; most international visitors will route through Aalborg or Copenhagen and continue by road/rail/bus to the Hjørring/Thisted area before taking local buses to Klitmøller.
Train: There is no railway station in Klitmøller. The nearest rail hubs are Aalborg or Thisted (Thisted reached by regional rail connections from Aalborg); from those stations you transfer to local buses.
Bus: Local regional buses connect Thisted and nearby towns with Klitmøller (routes operated by local transport authorities). Expect bus rides from Thisted or Hanstholm to take 30-60 minutes depending on route and schedule; fares are charged in Danish kroner (DKK).

There is no rail service into Klitmøller itself-reach the area by train to nearby hubs then local bus or by car. For flexibility and to reach surf spots, driving or taxis from Aalborg/Thisted are recommended.
- Regional bus (DKK 30-120) - Buses connect Klitmøller with Thisted, Hanstholm and other local towns. Services are generally reliable but can be less frequent on weekends-check the regional operator’s timetable for exact routes and times.
- Train (to Thisted / Aalborg) (DKK 50-250) - Take national or regional trains to Aalborg or Thisted and then switch to local buses for the final leg. Trains are comfortable and allow easy onward connections to the northwest coast.
- Car rental (DKK 300-700/day) - Driving is the easiest way to visit Klitmøller and surrounding beaches; the roads are well-maintained and parking is available near the village. A car is recommended if you want to explore the wider Thy area and coastal spots.
- Taxi (DKK 300-700) - Taxis can provide door-to-door transfers from Aalborg or Thisted, useful for early or late arrivals when buses are less frequent. Pre-booking is advisable in remote areas.
- Walking - Klitmøller’s centre and beaches are compact and easily explored on foot-walking is the best way to move between surf spots, cafés and the harbour.
