How to Get to Kings Plains National Park #
Kings Plains National Park is reached by sealed and unsealed roads from nearby regional towns in northern New South Wales. From Tamworth or Armidale, follow regional highways toward the Glen Innes-Armidale corridor, then take local roads (signposted to Kings Plains) into the park. The main access points are small carparks off Kings Plains Road; a high-clearance two-wheel-drive vehicle is generally sufficient but unsealed sections can be rough after rain.
Tips for Visiting Kings Plains National Park #
- Access the main walking tracks from the Kings Plains Road parking area - it avoids the narrower forest lanes.
- Late winter and spring (Aug-Oct) bring wildflowers and clearer views; after heavy summer rains some tracks can be slippery.
- Bring insect repellent and a good map: phone signal is patchy in the valley.
- There are no staffed facilities; pack out everything and be prepared for basic, unmarked trails.
