Keukenhof

Keukenhof is a spring flower park near Lisse in South Holland, Netherlands, celebrated for large displays of tulips and other bulb flowers. The gardens open annually for a few weeks in spring and attract international visitors for their designed flowerbeds and pavilions.

Flower displays include themed gardens, large-scale tulip plantings and indoor pavilions with bulb exhibitions and floral competitions. The park features walkways, ponds and sculpture, and is widely used for photography and horticultural shows. Planting schemes change each year so the displays and colour combinations vary seasonally.

The modern Keukenhof complex was developed in the mid-20th century to showcase Dutch bulb horticulture and has since become a major seasonal attraction. The park is managed as a public garden with yearly replanting schedules and exhibition programming.

Keukenhof is located in the bulb-growing region of South Holland, between the towns of Lisse, Leiden and Haarlem, about 35 kilometres southwest of Amsterdam by road.

• Seasonal opening: Open only in spring, typically from mid-March to mid-May, when the tulip and bulb displays are at their peak and themed flower shows run across the park.
• Scale of planting: Around seven million tulip, daffodil and hyacinth bulbs are planted annually across the gardens, which cover roughly 32 hectares.
