Kavieng is reached mainly by domestic air to KVG or by boat from other New Ireland communities. The town and immediate area are compact; boats are essential for diving and island trips.
Kavieng Airport (KVG): Kavieng on New Ireland is served by Kavieng Airport (KVG) with regular domestic flights (PNG Air, Air Niugini) from Port Moresby and other regional hubs. The airport is a short drive from Kavieng township-taxi transfer is typically 5-15 minutes and costs around 10-30 PGK.
(No international airports): Visitors normally fly via Port Moresby (POM) or sometimes through other regional hubs; flights are short island hops from those points.
Train: There are no train services to Kavieng.
