Kanisfluh is a prominent limestone mountain massif in the Bregenzerwald region of Vorarlberg, Austria. Its highest point reaches approximately 2,044 metres and the massif is a distinctive local landmark.
Hikers and climbers use marked trails to reach the summit ridge where steep faces drop to the valleys below; the northern escarpment is particularly notable. The summit offers panoramic views over the Bregenzerwald, the Rhine Valley and, on clear days, toward Lake Constance.
The massif is composed of layered limestone typical of the Northern Limestone Alps and has been used traditionally for alpine pasture and seasonal grazing. Recreational hiking and mountaineering developed through the 19th and 20th centuries as the region opened for tourism.
Kanisfluh sits in Vorarlberg’s Bregenzerwald subregion in western Austria, inland from the eastern shores of Lake Constance and within the mountainous district north of the Alpine Rhine.
