Jerpoint Abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery dating from the 12th century located near the village of Thomastown in County Kilkenny, Ireland. It is noted for its substantial surviving masonry and carved funerary monuments.
Surviving elements include parts of the church, cloister and chapter-house areas alongside a range of carved tomb slabs and effigies, some retaining fine medieval detail. The site is presented as a ruin open to visitors rather than as an active monastery.
The abbey was established in the 12th century and remained an active religious house through the medieval period before decline after the later medieval and early modern upheavals that affected monastic life across Ireland. Its stone buildings thereafter fell into ruin and are now preserved as an archaeological and heritage site.
The ruin stands close to the River Nore, near Thomastown in County Kilkenny, in southeastern Ireland.
