Iytwelepenty / Davenport Ranges National Park

Iytwelepenty / Davenport Ranges National Park is a protected area in the Davenport Range in the Northern Territory of Australia that conserves rugged sandstone ranges and significant Aboriginal cultural sites. The park is notable for its network of gorges, springs and native vegetation communities.

The area features short walking routes, scenic gorges and spring-fed waterholes set among sandstone escarpments; birdwatching and observing cycads and other native plants are common activities. Facilities are minimal and visits are generally self-guided, with opportunities for photography and wildlife observation.

Traditional owners have occupied the ranges for thousands of years and the landscape contains rock art and cultural places. The park was declared to protect both geological features and Indigenous cultural heritage and is managed under arrangements involving government conservation agencies and local stakeholders.

The park lies in central Northern Territory country, in the Davenport Range region east of the Tennant Creek area. The surrounding landscape is semi-arid savanna with rocky escarpments and seasonal watercourses.

• Best time to visit: Dry-season conditions between roughly May and October give the most reliable access and reduce insect activity.
• Access: Much of the park is remote and unsealed; high-clearance vehicles or four-wheel drive are often needed to reach trailheads and gorges.
