Hochstuhl (German) - also known as Stol in Slovenian - is the highest peak of the Karawanks mountain range on the Austria-Slovenia border, rising to about 2,236 metres. It is a prominent alpine summit in that part of the Alps.
The mountain offers marked alpine routes and ridge walks to the summit; routes vary in difficulty from steep hiking to more exposed scrambles. Climbers and hikers use established trails from both the Austrian and Slovenian sides to reach the peak.
Hochstuhl is a natural mountain without a constructed origin; it has been part of local alpine use for centuries and features typical mountain geology and alpine vegetation. Modern climbing routes and waymarking developed with the growth of recreational mountaineering.
