Évora is a historic city in Portugal’s Alentejo region with a continuous record from Roman times through the medieval and early modern periods. It preserves monuments from the Roman Temple to medieval churches and 16th-century university buildings.

The settlement originated in the Roman period, expanded in the medieval era and became an important religious and administrative centre in the early modern period, which brought university foundations and convents.
