Hermesvilla

Hermesvilla is a late 19th-century villa located within the park complex of Laxenburg in Lower Austria, created as an imperial residence. It was commissioned by Emperor Franz Joseph as a private retreat and is noted for its period interiors.

Exhibited rooms include furnished state chambers, decorative panels and exhibition spaces that explain the villa’s imperial connections and late 19th-century design. The building forms part of the larger landscaped Schlosspark Laxenburg and is often visited as part of the park circuit.

The villa was commissioned and completed in the late 1800s and thereafter used by members of the imperial family; it has since been preserved as a historic house with museum displays. Conservation has retained many original interior features and decorative schemes.

Hermesvilla sits within the municipal area of Laxenburg, south of Vienna in Lower Austria, and is reached from Vienna by regional rail or road. The site is integrated into the Laxenburg parkland and is accessible from the park paths.
