Hāwera is best reached by road from New Plymouth (NPL) or by intercity coach services. There's no regular passenger rail service to the town; car or coach are the practical options for most visitors.

By Air

New Plymouth Airport (NPL): New Plymouth is the nearest commercial airport for Hāwera. From New Plymouth airport the road trip to Hāwera takes about 45-60 minutes by car along State Highway 3; shuttle or taxi services and rental cars are available.

Wellington (WLG) / Auckland (AKL): For international travellers flights into major hubs (Auckland or Wellington) are followed by a domestic flight to New Plymouth or a longer coach/drive to Hāwera - road journeys from those cities can take several hours.

By Train & Bus

Train: New Zealand’s KiwiRail provides freight and scenic rail but limited long‑distance passenger services; there is no direct passenger rail to Hāwera.

Bus / Coach: InterCity coaches connect Hāwera with New Plymouth, Wellington and other centres. Hāwera’s bus terminal has services that suit regional travel; travel times vary by origin (New Plymouth ~45-60 minutes, Wellington ~3-4 hours).
