How to Get to Hanga Roa#
Hanga Roa is the main town on Easter Island (Rapa Nui) and is reached by air only-regular flights operate between Santiago (SCL) and Mataveri (IPC). Once on the island, transport is by road (taxis, rental cars, tours).
Arturo Merino Benítez / Santiago (SCL): The main international gateway to Chile. To reach Hanga Roa (Easter Island) you must transfer to a domestic flight-LATAM operates regular flights from Santiago to Mataveri International Airport (IPC) on Easter Island; flight time is about 5-6 hours.
Mataveri International Airport (IPC): Mataveri (on Easter Island) is the island’s only airport and is the arrival point for all commercial flights to Hanga Roa. The airport is about 20-30 minutes by road from Hanga Roa village; taxis and hotel transfers meet flights.
Train: There is no rail service on Easter Island.
Bus / Local transport: Local transport on Easter Island is limited to taxis, rental cars, tours and some small local buses/shuttles operated by hotels and tour companies. Shared transfers and organized tours are the most common ways to move between sites.

Easter Island is entirely dependent on air links-once on the island, use rental vehicles, taxis or organized tours to reach archaeological sites; Hanga Roa itself is very walkable.
