Halifax Bay Wetlands National Park is a coastal national park in Queensland protecting wetland and mangrove systems on Halifax Bay north of the Wet Tropics coast. It conserves tidal flats, mangroves and coastal wetlands that provide habitat for shorebirds and marine life.
The park’s landscapes are dominated by intertidal flats, mangrove forests and fringing coastal habitats used by waterbirds and fish nurseries. Visitors primarily use nearby coastal access points and boat ramps for birdwatching, fishing and short shoreline walks rather than extensive developed facilities.
The reserve is managed as part of Queensland’s protected-area network to conserve coastal wetlands and associated wildlife. Management focuses on habitat protection and sustainable public use.
The park sits on the eastern coast of Queensland on Halifax Bay, north of the township clusters around Ingham and south of the Cassowary Coast region. Coastal roads and small settlements provide the nearest access points.
- Birdwatching: Best birdwatching occurs on the tidal flats and mangrove fringes at low tide, when shorebirds concentrate on exposed mudflats.
- Access: Managed by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, access is by coastal roads and nearby boat ramps rather than extensive park facilities.
