How to Get to Guarujá
Guarujá is reached most easily from São Paulo by road - the nearest airports are São Paulo-Guarulhos (GRU) for international flights and Congonhas (CGH) for domestic connections. Most visitors transfer from São Paulo by intercity bus, private transfer or ride-hail; expect journey times of about 1-2 hours depending on traffic.
São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU): GRU is the main international gateway for the São Paulo region. From GRU you can take a taxi or app ride-share to Guarujá - expect roughly R$160-260 for an Uber and R$250-350 for an official airport taxi; journey time by road is typically 1h15-1h45 depending on traffic. A cheaper option is to take an airport bus or shuttle into São Paulo (to Tietê or Jabaquara) and continue by intercity bus to Guarujá (see bus card); combined transfer times are often 1h45-2h30.
São Paulo-Congonhas Airport (CGH): Congonhas is much closer to the coast and convenient for domestic arrivals. From Congonhas a taxi or ride-hail to central Guarujá usually costs about R$80-150 (Uber) or R$120-200 (taxi); driving time is approximately 45-70 minutes, though weekday peak-hour congestion on Anchieta/Imigrantes can add significant delay.
Train: There is no direct intercity passenger rail service to Guarujá. The nearest urban rail access is the São Paulo Metro/CPTM network - for example, Metro Line 1 (Blue) to Terminal Jabaquara - which is used to reach the bus terminal that serves the coast. Typical metro rides inside São Paulo range around 20-40 minutes depending on origin; use the metro to reach Jabaquara and then transfer to an intercity bus to Guarujá.
Bus: Regular intercity buses run from Terminal Jabaquara (São Paulo metro/bus interchange) and from São Paulo’s long-distance terminals to Santos and Guarujá. Fares for the Jabaquara → Guarujá/Santos services are roughly R$10-25 and the trip normally takes about 60-90 minutes to Guarujá (longer in heavy traffic). Within the Santos/Guarujá metro area there are frequent municipal and intermunicipal buses connecting beaches, the ferry terminal and downtown Guarujá.
