Großer Brombachsee is a large artificial reservoir in Bavaria, Germany, forming a central element of the Franconian Lake District and used for water management and recreation. The lake is one of a series of connected reservoirs created to regulate flow and provide leisure opportunities.

The shoreline offers beaches, marinas and a network of cycling and walking paths; sailing, windsurfing and boat hire are common summer activities. Visitors also use lakeside facilities for picnics and family recreation.

Constructed as part of a regional water-management and recreation scheme in the late 20th century, the reservoir was engineered with dams, canals and lock connections to integrate with nearby lakes. Its development converted former river valley areas into a managed lake system.

The lake lies in Middle Franconia in Bavaria, near the market town of Pleinfeld and within reach of cities such as Nuremberg and Ansbach by road.

  • Connections: part of the Franconian Lake District, it is linked by canals and sluices to the Kleiner Brombachsee and forms a large recreational reservoir.
  • Recreation: popular for sailing, swimming beaches and extensive cycling paths around the shoreline; seasonal facilities include marinas and boat hire.
