Greek pyramids

A small group of masonry pyramid-like structures in the Argolid area of the northeastern Peloponnese, Greece, best known for the Pyramid of Hellinikon. They are notable because their form and uncertain date make them subjects of ongoing archaeological debate.

Exact builders and original functions are not firmly established. The structures have been described in modern archaeology since the 19th century and have been re-examined repeatedly; interpretations have ranged from funerary monuments to later agricultural or storage buildings.

Situated in the Argolid (Argolis) of the northeastern Peloponnese, the group lies close to the town of Argos and other classical sites in the region, making them accessible as short detours from archaeological itineraries in the area.

• Access: Access is informal and the sites are not developed for mass tourism; many are visible from nearby country roads and short walks.
• Dating and interpretation: Archaeologists disagree on dating and function - proposals range from Hellenistic or Classical-period origins to later rural constructions, so interpretation varies between sources.

• Pyramid of Hellinikon: The best-known example in the group, a small four-sided stone structure near the village of Ellinikon (often called the Pyramid of Hellinikon). It is a freestanding masonry building whose age and original purpose have been the subject of scholarly debate.
