Paros
Island Cycladic Greek island known for beaches and marble
Paros attracts sailors and beachgoers to Cycladic harbours like Naoussa and Parikia, with tavernas serving grilled fish, windsurfing on sheltered bays and inland villages built from Parian marble.
Paros is a Greek island in the central Cyclades, in the South Aegean, known for its fine Parian marble and popular seaside towns. The island covers roughly 196 square kilometres and combines beaches, traditional villages and small archaeological sites.
The island’s highlights include the port town of Parikia with its waterfront and archaeology, the picturesque fishing harbour of Naoussa, and inland villages such as Lefkes. Visitors also seek granite rock formations and sheltered coves at Kolimbithres, and beach stretches favored by windsurfers and swimmers.
Paros has been inhabited since prehistoric times and was an important source of Parian marble in antiquity, used by classical sculptors. Over the centuries it was ruled by various regional powers and evolved into a tourism and fishing economy in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Geographically it sits in the central Aegean Sea, between Naxos and Antiparos, with ferry connections to Piraeus and nearby islands. The island’s main settlements cluster around natural harbors on the western and northern coasts.

How to Get to Paros #
By air: Paros National Airport (PAS) has regular flights from Athens International Airport (short domestic services). By sea: frequent ferries and high-speed boats run from Piraeus (Athens) and Rafina to Paros (Parikia port) and to other Cyclades islands, with greater frequency in summer.
Paros airport is a short drive from Parikia (about 10-15 minutes); Parikia port is a few minutes’ walk into the town centre. Local KTEL buses and taxis link the airport, port and island villages.
Tips for Visiting Paros #
- Arrive at Parikia port for the widest choice of ferries and bus connections; if your ferry drops you in Naoussa or Piso Livadi, factor in a short onward transfer.
- Beat the mid‑day crowds at popular beaches and towns by going early morning or late afternoon-Naoussa's harbor and Kolymbithres can be busiest during midday ferry arrivals.
- Venture inland to Lefkes and Marathi marble quarries-many visitors stick to the coast and miss these traditional villages and quieter hiking routes.
