Gorbeiako gurutzea / Cruz de Gorbeia

The Gorbeiako gurutzea / Cruz de Gorbeia is the summit cross marking the highest point of Mount Gorbea in the Basque Country of Spain, at about 1,482 meters above sea level. It is a prominent waypoint within the Gorbeia Natural Park and a recognizable symbol on the ridge line.

At the summit the cross functions as a panoramic viewpoint with broad vistas over the surrounding Basque mountains, forests and valleys. Hikers follow several established routes and forest tracks to reach the crest; routes vary in steepness and length and are used year-round by walkers and local mountaineers.

The summit cross serves as the traditional marker of Gorbea’s highest point; over time different crosses and summit markers have been placed at the top and maintained by local communities and park authorities. The site has long been used for recreational hiking and as a regional landmark.

The cross sits on the border between the provinces of Biscay and Álava within Gorbeia Natural Park in Spain’s Basque Country. The area is mountainous and wooded, with access from nearby towns and rural trailheads in the park.
