Goli Otok is a small, rocky island in the northern Adriatic Sea off the Croatian coast within Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. It is best known for its use as a political prison in the socialist Yugoslav era.
After World War II the island was used by Yugoslav authorities as a labor and prison camp for political prisoners, particularly from the late 1940s into the 1950s and later decades; the facilities were abandoned after the prison’s closure and the island has remained uninhabited.
