Gjeravica stands as a major mountain in western Kosovo, crossed by hiking routes that lead to alpine meadows and glacial lakes; mountaineers and walkers use it as a base for high‑altitude day trips.
Gjeravica (Đeravica) is a mountain peak in western Kosovo and is the country’s highest point at about 2,656 metres elevation. It is a prominent feature of the local highland landscape.
The mountain offers alpine terrain with rocky ridges, grassy summits and glacially formed lakes near the summit zone; routes to the top are used by hikers and mountaineers for day trips and multi-day treks. The summit provides extensive views over surrounding ranges and valleys.
Gjeravica has long been known locally as the highest peak in Kosovo and has been used historically for shepherding and seasonal grazing; more recently it has become established as a hiking and nature destination. Modern trail use increased during the 20th and 21st centuries.
The peak is located in western Kosovo near the border with Montenegro and Albania, within a rugged mountain area of high pastures and rocky ridgelines.
