Giessbach

Giessbach is a lakeside waterfall site and historic tourist complex on the eastern shore of Lake Brienz in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland, centered on the Giessbach Falls and the lakeside hotel.

The principal highlights are the multi-tiered Giessbach Falls, terrace viewpoints that look down to the lake, the historic lakeside hotel, and a late-19th-century funicular that connects the shore with the hotel and upper terraces. Short walking circuits and lakeside boat landings provide the main visitor access points.

The falls are a natural cascade and the hotel and funicular were developed in the 19th century as the area grew as an alpine tourist destination; the funicular and hotel have been preserved and maintained for visitors since that period.

Giessbach sits on the eastern shore of Lake Brienz near the village of Brienz and is reachable by boat from other lakeside towns or by road from the Brienz area. The site occupies steep forested slopes that drop to the lake.
