Gardoš Tower
Monument 19th-century tower landmark overlooking Belgrade's Zemun riverside
Perched on Gardoš hill in Belgrade’s Zemun quarter, the 19th-century Gardoš Tower draws visitors for its panoramic views over the Danube, surrounding cobbled streets and cafés, and walks through an old neighbourhood with Ottoman- and Austro-Hungarian-era architecture.
Gardoš Tower is a late 19th-century tower on Gardoš hill in the Zemun quarter of Belgrade, Serbia. It was constructed in 1896 as part of the Millennium commemorations.
The tower sits on a prominent hill and is visited for its viewing platform and close views over the Danube and Zemun’s historic streets. The surrounding Gardoš neighbourhood and hilltop promenade are used for short walks and local sightseeing.
Erected in 1896 to mark the thousandth anniversary celebrated by the Hungarian authorities, the tower has been maintained and restored as a local landmark. It stands on the site of older fortifications and is part of Zemun’s hilltop ensemble.
The tower crowns Gardoš hill in Zemun, adjacent to the Danube riverfront and the old town area of Zemun, now administratively part of Belgrade.
