Galleria Estense

The Galleria Estense is an art museum in Modena that houses the historic collections of the Dukes of Este. It serves as the principal repository of the Este family’s paintings, sculptures and applied arts.

Galleries present paintings from medieval to Baroque periods, alongside sculpture, decorative arts and numismatic material. The displays emphasise works collected by the Este dynasty and include manuscripts and objects linked to the ducal court.

The collection was formed by successive members of the House of Este over several centuries and remained central to Modena’s cultural heritage after the Este court settled in the city. The holdings have been displayed publicly in museum spaces associated with the Palazzo dei Musei.
