Galerie Neue Meister

The Galerie Neue Meister is the city of Dresden’s collection of 19th- and 20th-century art and is housed in the Albertinum museum in Saxony. The collection concentrates on modern and contemporary painting and sculpture from that period.

Gallery rooms present works by European and German artists across movements such as Romanticism, Impressionism and modernism, paired with sculpture displays in adjoining halls. Exhibition layouts group paintings and three-dimensional works by period and school and include changing temporary exhibitions drawn from the collection.

Dresden’s Neue Meister collection developed from municipal and royal acquisitions of the 19th and 20th centuries and was relocated into the Albertinum to create a unified presentation of later art. The Albertinum building has served as the collection’s public home and underwent refurbishments to accommodate modern display and conservation needs.

The Albertinum and the Galerie Neue Meister sit on Dresden’s Brühl’s Terrace along the Elbe River, within the historic centre and close to other major Dresden museums and cultural sites.
