Fundació Joan Miró is a museum and cultural foundation in Barcelona dedicated to the work of the artist Joan Miró, founded in 1975. The institution presents Miró’s paintings, sculptures and works on paper alongside temporary contemporary art exhibitions.
The collection spans major works by Miró across media and includes study materials and archives that document his practice. The building, designed by Josep Lluís Sert, provides galleries, study spaces and a rooftop terrace with views over the city. Rotating exhibitions and educational programmes complement the permanent collection, making it a centre for Modern and contemporary art on Montjuïc.
Established by Miró and supporters as a foundation in 1975, the museum was designed to house his work and to promote contemporary art. Since opening it has expanded its exhibition and educational activities while maintaining the artist’s core collection.
Situated on Montjuïc hill in Barcelona, the foundation is accessible from the city centre and sits near other cultural sites such as the National Art Museum of Catalonia and the Olympic facilities.
