Fulda Cathedral

Fulda Cathedral is a major Baroque cathedral in the city of Fulda, Hesse, built in the early 18th century and serving as the seat of the Diocese of Fulda. It is an important regional landmark and pilgrimage site due to its association with Saint Boniface.

The interior presents Baroque architectural and decorative schemes with a prominent high altar and chancel area that houses the tomb and relics of Saint Boniface. Visitors can view the cathedral nave, chapels and the cathedral treasury displays linked to its ecclesiastical history.

The present cathedral was constructed in the early 1700s on the site of earlier medieval church buildings; its design and construction were driven by the Fulda prince-abbots and later the diocese. The cathedral stands in central Fulda, within easy walking distance of the town centre and railway station. Fulda is located in eastern Hesse, roughly 100 kilometres northeast of Frankfurt am Main.
