Fulaga
Island Coral atoll in Fiji with deep lagoons
Part of Fiji’s Lau Group, Fulaga (Vulaga) is a remote raised‑coral island where visitors arrange village visits, traditional kava gatherings and reef diving around its lagoons.
Fulaga (also written Vulaga) is a remote coral island in Fiji’s southern Lau Group, within the Eastern Division. The island is noted for its distinctive reef formation and traditional village life.
A characteristic horseshoe-shaped reef surrounds a central lagoon that is the island’s main maritime feature, with steep limestone shoreline in places and a sheltered interior. The island supports traditional settlements and is visited for snorkeling, fishing and observing its reef and lagoon system.
Fulaga has long been inhabited by Lau island communities and retains customary land use and village structures typical of the region. Maritime activities and subsistence gardening have formed the basis of local life.
Fulaga lies in the southern Lau Islands of eastern Fiji, well offshore from Fiji’s main islands and reached by regional boat or inter-island transport.
