Fregellae is an ancient Roman colony in Lazio, Italy, founded in 328 BCE and located in the Liri valley. It was an important strategic settlement in the Roman period and later abandoned after a rebellion in 125 BCE.
Archaeological remains at the site show the street plan and building foundations of a Roman town. Short walks across the site reveal masonry walls and traces of public and private structures laid out in rectilinear blocks.
The town was founded as a Roman colony in 328 BCE and served as a military and administrative center until it was destroyed following a revolt in 125 BCE. Subsequent centuries left the site largely buried until modern archaeological investigations exposed its remains.
The site sits in the southern part of Lazio, in the Liri valley between Rome and Naples; it is in the plain along the Liri River and is accessible by road from nearby towns in the province of Frosinone.
