The Franconian Heights (Frankenhöhe) are a low hill region in northern Bavaria characterized by wooded plateaus, agricultural land, and scattered villages. The area forms part of the rolling uplands between larger Franconian towns and offers local opportunities for walking and countryside recreation.
Trails and minor roads cross the hills, which are used for forestry, pasture and small-scale farming; viewpoints on the higher ridges provide local panoramas across farmland and woodland. The landscape includes typical Franconian mixed woodland rather than dramatic alpine relief.
The region developed through traditional rural land use and forestry over centuries, with settlements adapted to the upland terrain and local agriculture. It is managed today for a mix of conservation, recreation and production forestry.
