The Fortress of Deva (Cetatea Deva) is a medieval citadel sitting on a steep basalt hill above the town of Deva in Hunedoara County, Romania. The site is an important regional landmark dating back to the medieval period.
Ruined walls and ramparts crown the hill and provide panoramic views over the town and the surrounding Mureș River valley. A short cable car connects the town with the citadel, and visitors typically walk sections of the surviving curtain walls and terraces.
The citadel originated in the medieval era and was used as a defensive stronghold and administrative center through later centuries; it has been repaired and partly reconstructed at various times.
