Fitzroy Island National Park is a protected island reserve off the coast of Queensland, Australia, in the Great Barrier Reef region near Cairns. The island is a rainforest-fringed volcanic landmass surrounded by coral reef and sheltered bays, used for day visits and short-stay tourism.

How to Get to Fitzroy Island National Park #

Fitzroy Island National Park is reached by regular ferries and charter boats from Cairns. Public ferries depart from the Cairns reef/ferry terminal (Reef Fleet Terminal/Cairns Marina) and take about 45 minutes to reach Fitzroy’s Welcome Bay; helicopter transfers and private boats are also available. The ferry lands at the main jetty and the visitor facilities and walking tracks are a short walk from the wharf.

  • Book ferry crossings from Cairns in advance and aim for an early departure to get prime snorkelling time before mid-day boat traffic increases.
