Fierza Reservoir is an artificial lake in northern Albania created by the construction of the Fierza dam on the Drin River. The reservoir is part of Albania’s cascade of hydroelectric facilities and functions primarily for power generation and water storage.
The lake extends along the Drin valley and has steep, reservoir-shaped shorelines that are used for limited boating and local transport. The reservoir is also used for hydropower operations that serve Albania’s electricity grid.
The Fierza dam and reservoir were completed in the late 1970s as part of the Drin river development programme, creating one of the country’s largest inland water bodies.
Geographically the reservoir sits in northern Albania near the settlement of Fierzë and stretches into the mountainous territory close to the border with Kosovo.
- Variable water levels: Water levels vary with hydropower generation and seasonal inflow, so shoreline access and boat itineraries can change across the year.
