Festetics Palace

The Festetics Palace is an 18th-century Baroque palace complex in Keszthely on the western shore of Lake Balaton, Hungary, that was developed and enlarged by the Festetics family. It is one of the largest historic residences in Hungary and today houses museum collections.

Visitors come to see the palace’s ceremonial rooms, museum displays and landscaped parkland that faces the town and the lake. The complex includes formal gardens, service wings and park avenues that reflect its role as a large noble residence.

Construction began in the 18th century under the Festetics family, with significant 19th-century expansions and interior redecoration that created the present ensemble of reception rooms and galleries. The palace later became a museum and cultural venue, preserving period interiors and family collections.

Situated in Keszthely on the shore of Lake Balaton, the palace lies within the town’s built centre and is a short walk from the lakeside promenade. Keszthely is one of the principal towns on Balaton’s western side.
