Fedaia Lake
Lake High alpine lake beneath Marmolada in Dolomites
Lake Fedaia sits beneath the Marmolada glacier in the Dolomites; cyclists, hikers and skiers visit for alpine views, mountain roads and lakeside routes.
Lago di Fedaia is a high-altitude mountain lake and reservoir in Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Italy, located at the foot of the Marmolada massif in the Dolomites. The lake and its dam lie close to the mountain pass known as Passo Fedaia and offer direct views of the Marmolada glacier.
The lake is used as a small hydroelectric reservoir and is framed by steep alpine terrain; the immediate area is popular for landscape photography, hiking and as a scenic stop on mountain roads. In winter the surrounding slopes are used for skiing and in summer routes from the pass access a range of Dolomite trails.
The site developed as part of regional alpine infrastructure and tourism tied to the Marmolada group; the road over Passo Fedaia provides the main vehicle access route. The lake sits over 2,000 metres above sea level and is reached by winding mountain roads from valleys below.
Geographically it is located in the Dolomites of northeastern Italy, near Passo Fedaia and the Marmolada ridge, within the boundary area between the provinces of Trentino and Belluno.
- Viewpoint: Sits below the Marmolada glacier and is accessible by the Passo Fedaia road, making it a common starting point for hikes and photographed for its glacier-backed views.
- Conditions: The lake is a reservoir formed by a dam and lies at high alpine elevation, so weather can change quickly and snow can persist into late spring at the pass.
