Falla Plaza del Cid

The Falla Plaza del Cid is a neighborhood falla monument erected in the Valencian Community of Spain as part of the annual Las Fallas festival. It represents one of the temporary public monuments assembled in town squares across Valencia each March.

Large painted and sculpted figures and scenes known as ninots and falla monuments are assembled on the plaza; these are typically several meters high and created by local artisans. The display period runs through early March and culminates in the cremà, when many fallas are ceremonially burned on the night of March 19.

The Falla Plaza del Cid is produced by a local falla commission and follows the long Valencian tradition of making satirical, sculptural monuments for Las Fallas. The modern festival evolved from older carpenters’ bonfires and street celebrations and took its present festival form over the 19th and 20th centuries.

Sited in the city of Valencia within the Valencian Community, the falla occupies Plaza del Cid during the festival period and is part of the wider citywide Las Fallas program.
