The European Solidarity Centre is a museum and cultural institution in Gdańsk, Poland, dedicated to the Solidarity trade union and the broader democratic opposition in Central and Eastern Europe. It opened in 2014 as a combined museum, archive and educational centre.
The centre’s permanent exhibition documents the origins and development of Solidarity and the end of communist rule in Poland, using photographs, documents and multimedia displays. Temporary exhibitions rotate through contemporary and historical topics related to democracy, workers’ movements and human rights. The building also contains an archive and public library with primary-source material, plus spaces for lectures and workshops.
The centre was established to preserve and present the history of Solidarity and the political changes of the late 20th century in Poland and neighbouring countries; its institutional founding and public opening took place in 2014. Collections include donated archives, oral histories and materials gathered from trade unions, activists and public institutions.
