Eubenangee Swamp National Park
Park Wetland national park protecting rainforest and wetlands
Wetland reserve in far north Queensland protecting lowland rainforest and swamp habitat; birdwatchers and naturalists visit for guided walks, canoeing and seasonal wildlife viewing.
Eubenangee Swamp National Park is a protected wetland area on the coastal plain of north Queensland, Australia, that conserves freshwater swamp rainforest and melaleuca-dominated wetlands. It protects lowland wetland habitats that are important for waterbirds, amphibians, and wetland plant communities.
Visitors come primarily for birdwatching and nature observation; the park contains seasonal wetlands and rainforest fragments rather than developed recreation infrastructure. Access is generally by road from nearby towns, and much of the reserve is managed to maintain its hydrology and habitat values.
The area was set aside to protect its wetland ecosystems as coastal development increased in the region; management focuses on maintaining native vegetation and water regimes. The park reflects conservation efforts to retain representative examples of Queensland coastal swamp rainforest and associated wildlife.
Geographically the park lies on the wet tropical coastal plain of Queensland near the Cassowary Coast region, inland from the Coral Sea and within driving distance of the regional towns on the highway between Cairns and Townsville.
