Esch-sur-Sûre Castle is a medieval ruin overlooking the village of Esch-sur-Sûre in northwestern Luxembourg, in the Wiltz area. The remains crown a rocky spur above the Sûre river and are visible from the village below.
Visitors encounter ruined curtain walls, fragments of defensive masonry and the remains of the castle core set on steep ground that commands the narrow valley. The site is compact and is visited for the ruins and the panoramic outlook rather than extensive interior spaces.
The castle dates to the Middle Ages and was built as a defensive stronghold to control the Sûre valley. Over subsequent centuries it fell out of military use and parts were allowed to decay, leaving the ruin seen today.
The site sits directly above the village of Esch-sur-Sûre in northwestern Luxembourg, overlooking the Sûre river valley and the surrounding rural landscape.
