Enterprise Island
Island Antarctic island with historic sealing and research sites
Near the Antarctic Peninsula, Enterprise Island sits among glacial channels and rock outcrops; expedition cruises land for zodiac outings, iceberg views and wildlife observation.
Enterprise Island is a small Antarctic island located off the western side of the Antarctic Peninsula. It lies within the coastal island groups visited by expedition cruises operating in the region.
The island is a typical short-landing destination for Antarctic cruises, offering close views of seabirds, penguins and seals from shore and zodiac. Walks on firm ground and short shore landings allow visitors to observe wildlife and coastal geology at close range.
The island was charted and named during the era of Antarctic exploration and sealers; specific historic installations are limited or absent. Over time it has been used only as a transient landing and wildlife viewing site rather than a permanent station.
Sits off the Danco Coast region of the Antarctic Peninsula, in the coastal island chains visited by ships between 64 and 65 degrees south latitude. The island is accessed by sea from expedition vessels operating in the peninsula’s bays and channels.
- Visitor access: Frequently visited by Antarctic cruise ships during the austral summer for short landings and zodiac excursions to view wildlife.
