Élysée Palace

The Élysée Palace is an 18th-century Parisian hôtel particulier that serves as the official residence and executive office of the President of France. It is one of the principal state buildings in central Paris.

The building functions as the president’s main workplace and ceremonial residence, where official receptions, press briefings and meetings of state protocol take place. Public access to interiors is restricted; the palace and gardens are occasionally opened to visitors during the European Heritage Days.

Constructed as a private mansion in the 18th century, the Palais de l’Élysée passed through several private owners before becoming associated with the head of state in the 19th century. Since then it has been adapted for official use and state functions while retaining its historic exterior and formal gardens.

It sits in the 8th arrondissement on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in central Paris, within walking distance of the Champs-Élysées and other government buildings and embassies.
