Elba is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Tuscan coast of Italy and is the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago. The island covers about 224 square kilometers and is known for its beaches, granite hills, and coastal towns.
Beaches, coastal promenades, and inland trails attract summer visitors, while the island’s history - notably the 1814 exile of Napoleon Bonaparte - contributes to several small museums and historic sites. Monte Capanne is the island’s highest point at about 1,019 meters and provides panoramic views; a cable car runs to near the summit from the town of Marciana.
Elba has served various rulers through history and today is connected to the mainland by frequent ferry services from Piombino, making it a popular short-break destination from Tuscany.

How to Get to Elba #
Ferries sail regularly from Piombino (about a 1-1.5 hour crossing) - the port is reached via the SS1 (Via Aurelia) and by train from Livorno or Pisa. In summer, hydrofoils operate frequent passenger runs; cars require a conventional ferry boarding. Once on Elba, local buses and rental cars or scooters are the usual ways to move between towns.

- Ferry crossings from Piombino take 1-1.5 hours; book in summer to ensure a spot for car transport.
- Visit Napoleon's residence at Villa dei Mulini and Villa San Martino early to avoid peak crowds and midday heat.
