Dowth is a Neolithic passage tomb complex in County Meath, Ireland, and a component of the Brú na Bóinne UNESCO World Heritage Site dating to the fourth millennium BC. It is one of several large passage graves in the Boyne valley that demonstrate the scale of Neolithic funerary architecture in Ireland.

The site contains multiple cairns and passage graves with large kerbstones and decorated standing stones; two principal mounds dominate the monument. Antiquarian and archaeological work has revealed chambers and burial deposits typical of passage tombs, and the complex is visited for its prehistoric architecture and carved stones.

The tombs were constructed by Neolithic farming communities around 3200-2500 BC and form part of the broader ritual landscape of the Boyne valley alongside Newgrange and Knowth. The site has been subject to excavation and consolidation by archaeologists over the 19th and 20th centuries and is conserved as part of the Brú na Bóinne ensemble.

Dowth sits on the north side of the River Boyne in County Meath within the Boyne valley landscape, northwest of the town of Drogheda. The area is low-lying river valley farmland with a dense concentration of other prehistoric monuments nearby.

Dowth is part of the Brú na Bóinne passage tomb complex near Donore in County Meath. Visitors typically use the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre at Donore as the access point; the site is reachable by car from Dublin in about 45-60 minutes (roughly a one-hour drive north on the M1/N2 and local roads) and by regional bus/tour services from nearby towns such as Drogheda. Access to the tomb itself is normally by guided tour from the visitor centre.

Treat Dowth as part of the Brú na Bóinne complex-use the Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre at Donore for context, route information and signage before exploring the mounds.
Visit midweek or late afternoon to avoid the large tour groups that concentrate on Newgrange; Dowth is quieter and rewards a slow walk around its kerbstones and surface features.
Remember interior access at Dowth is limited compared with Newgrange and Knowth-observe fencing and public paths and respect agricultural land on approach.
