Domica
Amusement Park Slovak karst cave complex and UNESCO biospeleological site
Domica Cave in the Slovak Karst is a show cave within a transboundary karst system, visited for guided tours of stalactites, subterranean passages and its inclusion in UNESCO-protected cave networks.
Domica is a karst cave in southern Slovakia that forms part of the Baradla-Domica cave system spanning into Hungary. It is noted for speleothems, underground passages and archaeological finds and is included in the Aggtelek Karst UNESCO inscription.
A managed show-cave route offers guided access to decorated chambers and galleries, while many passages continue beyond tourist areas as part of the international cave complex. The site is used for scientific study, education and tourism.
The cave formed through dissolution of limestone by underground water over geological timescales and has been visited and studied since the 20th century. Conservation and visitor management aim to protect delicate formations and archaeological deposits.
Domica lies close to the Slovakia-Hungary border within the karst region that gives the system its name and is accessible from nearby regional towns and protected areas of the karst landscape.
