Dolmen of Menga

The Dolmen of Menga is a large megalithic burial monument near Antequera in Andalusia, southern Spain, dating to the Neolithic period. It is a key element of the Antequera Dolmens Site, a UNESCO World Heritage property.

The structure consists of an elongated burial chamber formed from huge stone slabs and a long access passage; its scale and the size of the stones are notable compared with many other European dolmens. Visitors come to examine the chamber architecture and the alignment of the site in relation to nearby landscape features.

Archaeological study dates the monument to the fourth or third millennium BCE, when local farming communities built collective tombs and ritual spaces. The dolmen has been known and studied since the 19th century and was included in modern heritage protection efforts culminating in its World Heritage inscription.

The dolmen stands just outside the town of Antequera in inland Andalusia, set near prominent local landmarks such as the Peña de los Enamorados and the Torcal limestone landscape.
