Docklands Stadium

Docklands Stadium, commonly known by its commercial name, is a major multi-purpose stadium in the Docklands precinct of Melbourne, Victoria that opened in 2000. It is a large-capacity venue with a retractable roof used for professional sport and large concerts.

The stadium hosts Australian rules football, rugby, soccer and major concerts, with a seating capacity of roughly 53,000 depending on configuration. The internal seating bowl is reconfigurable so sightlines differ between oval and rectangular setups, and the covered environment allows year-round event scheduling.

Built and commissioned around 2000 as part of the Docklands precinct redevelopment, the venue was designed as a covered, multi-use stadium to host professional sports and entertainment events. Over time it has hosted national and international sporting fixtures, major concerts and conferences and has had several commercial naming rights changes.

The stadium sits in the Docklands area on the northwestern edge of Melbourne’s CBD, a short walk from Southern Cross Station and major tram routes, approximately 2-3 kilometers from the historic centre of Melbourne.
