Daskalio

Daskalio is a small islet in the Cyclades, located adjacent to the sacred islet of Keros, and is notable as a major Early Bronze Age (3rd millennium BCE) archaeological site. It preserves a substantial terraced complex built of stone and marble that served ritual and settlement functions.

The site is primarily of archaeological interest rather than a conventional tourist destination; highlights documented by excavations include large stone terraces, paved causeways and extensive masonry covering much of the islet. Finds indicate workshops and craft production, including evidence for early metalworking associated with the broader Keros-Syros culture.

Daskalio was modified and intensively used during the 3rd millennium BCE as part of a ritual and habitation complex linked to nearby sacred islands. Systematic archaeological work beginning in the 21st century has revealed the island’s engineered terraces and construction phases, changing understanding of Cycladic Bronze Age society.

Situated in the southern Aegean Sea of the Cyclades, Daskalio lies immediately adjacent to the islet of Keros and southeast of Naxos, within the island cluster that makes up the Keros archaeological area.
