Dammastock
Mountain Highest peak of Canton Uri, Alpine massif summit
Dammastock crowns the Uri Alps above the Damma Glacier; mountaineers and hikers come for glacier routes, alpine ridge walks and high mountain panoramas in Canton Uri.
Dammastock is the highest mountain of the Urner Alps in Switzerland, rising to an elevation of about 3,630 metres. It is a prominent alpine summit above the upper Rhone valley and is notable for its glaciated flanks.
The massif features permanent ice and snow fields and is commonly approached by mountaineers via glacier routes from the valleys below. The mountain sits on a high ridge and forms a watershed between neighbouring valleys.
The massif and its glaciers have been the subject of climbing and alpine study for over a century, and access is typically seasonal with summer the main climbing period. Mountain huts and established routes are used by parties ascending the peak.
Dammastock is located in the Swiss Alps within the Canton of Uri, near the boundary with Valais, and overlooks the headwaters of the Rhone and the surrounding high alpine terrain.
